Facebook Isn’t Just For Kids

Although many teenagers and young adults would disagree, the social networking website Facebook has plenty of room for the adult population to join. The site began as a way for college students to connect with friends and strangers from theirs and other schools, but it has since grown into a behemoth of a cultural necessity. As of the end of 2010, there were 500 million Facebook users throughout the world. Not being on the site is becoming more of a disadvantage as it continues to balloon. Being somewhat leery about joining at an older age is understandable, but the typical user is changing and more people of all ages are realizing the benefits of joining. The following aspects are just a few reasons why joining Facebook may enhance your professional and personal life.

1. Networking. Websites such as LinkedIn have claimed to be the mature way of professional networking, but the fact remains that the number of people on Facebook trounces the amount on LinkedIn by a long shot. Being able to connect with people from all over the world in every field imaginable could be a great opportunity for someone looking to boost their career or meet with fellow professionals like them.
2. Keeping in touch with friends and family. You don’t have to wait for class or family reunions to catch up with your favorite cousin or former best friend. With Facebook you are immediately connected with those you love. Watching a video of your newborn niece without having to leave your house is an amazing idea.
3. Staying in the loop. As an adult, it’s easy to stay focused on the things in your life that seem the most important: family, your career, etc. Adults also tend to shy away from new technology, which can also be important, for these reasons. But Facebook can improve the things that are important to you by connecting you with others who feel the same.
