Staying Connected: Advancements of the 21st Century

Previously in the years past we had to rely upon telephones and traditional mail as our only means of staying connected. Thanks to the advancements of the internet, now we have the ability to stay connected all the time. Here is a glance at just some of the ways the internet has not only changed the world but the way we connect with each other.

By simply turning on our computers and signing onto the internet we now have the ability to keep in touch with family, friends, co-workers and business contacts. One of the most popular ways this has affected the way we stay in touch is with email. Faster than snail mail, email has become the number one way we stay connected. Email allows us to stay in touch with family members, sending letters, pictures and videos as well as a great work tool. It is also an excellent tool for employers and employees to stay in touch.

Instant messaging is another popular program we use today to keep connected through the internet. There are several different instant messaging programs that allow people to chat back and forth much like a telephone. Some people enjoy using microphones and web cams so they are able to see and hear the person they are instant messaging with. This is great for family members and friends who are living far apart, those who travel a lot or have to be separated.

Last, but certainly not least, social networking sites have become a great tool for staying connected. With these sites people are able to find old family members, friends, school mates and co-workers and get reacquainted with them. These sites let people to update what their current lives are like, allow them to upload videos, pictures and chat with their friends just by signing up to one of these sites.
